What is Your Word for 2019?

My word in 2018 was “faith”. I am naturally a planner but what I am learning is sometimes you have to just let things be. If I could, I would plan all my days for 2019; yet what I learned about myself this year is the importance of leaving some margin in my plans for Jesus to move.

In order for my faith to rise, I had to let go and allow Jesus to move on my behalf. To be willing to go when plans change and to be willing to keep going when things are not happening as I thought they would.

2019 I am devoted to being intentional. I felt this on my heart for the last few months. I desire to be intentional with those in my world, to be intentional in spending time with my Savior and to be intentional with the time He has given me.

This year reminded me that tomorrow isn’t promised. Death is no respecter of age but if the Lord has blessed me with another day, I want to be intentional in how I spend it. The planner in me often works off a to-do list and it is my goal to check everything off but I want to intentionally do what the Lord is calling me to do that day. If it means that something doesn’t get done because I need to spend time with a friend who is hurting then I desire to be intentional to keep a “yes” in my pocket for what is needed that day.

Will it be easy? No, but I believe it is the word He has given me and my heart desires to steward it well.

There is a song by United Pursuit titled “Waste it All” and I think it truly depicts the kind of life I desire to live. It is about being intentional to spend your life devoted to Jesus.

What word has the Lord placed on your heart and how will you steward it in 2019?

Today’s prayer: Father, I pray that as we go into a new year that we will steward our time while being devoted to whatever you are calling us towards each day. I ask that you give my sisters a word or a verse this year to meditate on. My hope is that we will break our alabaster jars open this new year and pour it on you every day. Lead us in the way we should go Lord and let us not depart from your presence.

New Season: New Playlist

2018 you can kindly go now! It seems as if so many people are hurting right now. There are so many people in my life who are being attacked by the enemy and on top of that, we have experienced much loss in the last few days. So much so that it has left my heart feeling desperate to experience more of Jesus. In the midst of storms, it is so easy to get down and isolate yourself but I am choosing to worship, in spite of.

I wanted to share with you my most recent top 5 list of worship songs that are speaking to me right now. These songs have been on constant repeat in my car and I hope that it blesses you as much as it has blessed me.

  1. So Will I/Do It Again by Osby Berry
  2. Here Again by Elevation Worship
  3. God is Good by Jonathon McReynolds
  4.  Known by Tauren Wells
  5. Surrounded (Fight My Battles) by Upperroom

Regardless of what you are facing in this season, I pray that you find your peace through worship. For me, worship allows me to take my focus off of my situation and keep my eyes on God. It doesn’t always erase the pain or change the circumstance but it changes me to look at those things differently.

I ask that you allow God to meet you today in the midst of whatever you are facing, which will help remind you that your God is bigger than your problem. I hope by choosing to fix your eyes on Him, it will bring peace that surpasses all understanding.

When We Call His Name

Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off! (Acts 16:25- 26 NLT)

I imagine Paul and Silas singing an old hymn like How Great Thou Are, Great Is Thy Faithfulness or maybe a little Amazing Grace. The text said that the prisoners heard them and immediately their circumstances changed.

While reading the text, it made me think about my worship. Am I worshipping from a place of reverence or a place of want? I believe when we worship in a position of reverence regardless of our circumstance, we began to see it differently. Our perspective changes when we can sing while in the valley.

I find comfort in this text because midnight signifies a dark hour so even in our darkest hour, we are reminded that He is with us.

It was their worship that invited God’s presence and immediately they were free.

I pray that while in the valley, you always remember that He is with you. He is here and sometimes it is your praise that can break the chains off your situation..suddenly and immediately.

Worship Me in Spirit and in Truth

The bible on a stone against the sea

But a time is coming and is already here when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit [from the heart, the inner self] and in truth; for the Father seeks such people to be His worshipers- John 4:23 AMP.

I can recall being woken up in the middle of the night reciting these words “worship me in spirit and in truth.” I didn’t understand it at the time but I realize now how the Lord wanted me to stop trying to perfect my worship. I had always wanted to make sure I was singing the right note and didn’t get too vulnerable where I got emotional but the Lord wanted me to depart from those ways and truly worship Him. He wanted me to be myself before Him and give my all.

I couldn’t be worried about singing the right notes, I just needed my gaze to be on Jesus’ face. And wherever my hands reached out in that moment and whatever note flowed from my lips, it just needed to happen because I would be so focused on that moment to  reverence my Savior. I believe this is the type of worship, He wants from us.

Not a calculated worship but an authentic worship experience between you and Him.

In John Gray’s book, I Am Number 8 he said: “we can be wounded in our hearts and still worship in our Spirit. We can be wounded in our souls and still worship in our Spirit. Because the wounds are temporary, but the worship is eternal.”

I love this reminder of how it doesn’t matter what we are going through, we still are rewarded the opportunity to worship. I don’t have to worship, I get to worship.

As we continue on this week, my prayer is that we authentically worship our Savior in all that we do. I pray that we never miss an opportunity to reverence in who He is and all that He’s done.

The Heart of Worship

“A Father’s heart that’s for me
A never ending story
Of love that’s always chasing me

His kindness overwhelming
And hope for me unending
He’s never given up on me

I will sing of all you’ve done
I’ll remember how far you carried me
From beginning until the end
You are faithful, faithful to the end” -Bethel Music

Worship is one of my favorite things to do. It’s a time to fix my eyes on the things above and not the things around me. There is something about being in God’s presence, in God’s house and around God’s people. When I look around the room and see so many people with their arms lifted high in an act of worship to our King, it truly does my heart some good.

I love simple worship songs that even if you don’t initially know it, you learn it in that moment because the words are so simple yet so powerful. When your eyes are closed and you are committed to his presence, these words tug at your heart in a way that allows God to move in your life.

But how do you worship when everything around you is in despair? Maybe you’ve lost a loved one, you’re unsure of how bills will get paid, or you look good  on the outside but on the inside there’s so much hurt and uncertainty.

Often times, people miss out on worship because “they don’t feel like it” or “they don’t feel worthy.” They can put on a mask when they go to work every day but they avoid church because of their feelings.

I think we all have to do things that we don’t feel like but for whatever reason, we avoid church in those moments where we need it the most. Sometimes we need to set aside our feelings to just be in his presence. To surrender our stuff over to him and allow him to move. To trust him in the moments where we’ve done all that we can do and we give it over to him. God says “come to me, all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).” The first words show us that we have to input the action to get what our heart is desiring. He says “come to me” We can’t expect God to move if we don’t come to him with our issues. You can come to him at any moment and in any environment. When I read this scripture, I just imagined him extending his arm towards his children to give him the issues that are weighing them down. I don’t want you to allow your feelings to miss out on this open invitation from God.

The Bible tells us that the “Lord is near to those who are discouraged; he saves those who have lost all hope (Psalm 34:18).” Allow God to save you and bring back your sense of hope in him.

I believe that we can worship God through all of our circumstances. We can draw near to him and he will come near to us (James 4:8). I pray that more and more people will understand that it is the devil’s intention to keep you away from church and God’s people during those times where you need them the most. Whatever you are struggling with, I pray that you commit to pressing through during those times regardless of how you feel and what’s going on around you. If you would go to God first with your issues, I believe he will honor your obedience and bring clarity, hope, and healing. He will strengthen you during the times where you feel broken and give you a new perspective to cling to.

God has great plans for you but he does ask us to worship him in spirit and in truth.

“The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth- John 4:23-24.”

We should all have a song in our heart to get us through the good and bad days. A song where regardless of how you feel, it draws you in. If you can be the one who worships God regardless of what’s going on around you, I believe that you will see that your God is bigger than any problem you may face. I think deep down you know this to be true, but since you’ve focused on the issue and not God, it has magnified the problem. I pray that you will keep a meaningful song in your heart this year and not allow the things of this world to write it for you.

There wasn’t a day
That You weren’t by my side
There wasn’t a day
That You let me fall
All of my life
Your love has been true
All of my life
I will worship You
